"Disposal of Uninhabitable Mobile Homes
  - Success Using a Big Carrot and a Little Stick"

This session will explore the methods, both public and private, to efficiently clean up abandoned or uninhabitable mobile homes (pre-HUD Code). Due to the varying availability of appropriate disposal sites and other factors, ‘one size does not fit all' throughout the State. To make it easier, the KMHI is preparing a series of "How To" documents to encourage everyone involved to take their appropriate responsibility.
Summary:

  • State, County or local government participation: recycling programs and landfill facilities

  • Show individual homeowners how to act responsibly

  • KMHI members will know what options are open for them and can plan and budget for disposal

  • Regulating agencies may be encouraged to assist

  • Private companies may find profitable methods to be involved

In many conference sessions and workshops on manufactured homes, issues, topics and concerns emerge that are specific to the individual jurisdictions present. This presentation is designed to give the participants a firmer foundation to focus on these issues and to bring them up to date on what is available. This can be a spring board for a healthy discussion that emerges from the participants. Given that many different levels of land use regulation and intensity of development patterns will be represented in each gathering, it is considered to be of great importance to plan adequate time in any agenda for these discussions.
